Steve Kerr Reveals Golden State Warriors’ Eye-Opening Stephen Curry-Centered Trade Plan
Originally posted on Hardwood Heroics | By Paolo Songco | Last updated 7/11/24
It appears that the Golden State Warriors are not done making moves this summer. They’ve already added some reinforcement in the wake of Klay Thompson and Chris Paul’s departures, but the Dubs haven’t really scored big in either free agency or the trade market — at least not at the Lauri Markkanen level.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was recently asked about his team’s trade plans in the offseason, and the four-time NBA champion shot-caller appears to have confirmed that everyone not named Stephen Curry is on the table.
Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry Only Untradeable Player on Roster
In a recent interview, Kerr was asked about the trade availability of rising star Jonathan Kuminga, who himself has been linked to a move away from the Bay Area. While the veteran coach did not answer the question directly, he seems to have confirmed that Kuminga is not untouchable — along with everybody else on the roster:

“There’s very few players in the league who are not talked about in trade discussions,” Kerr said, via 95.7 The Game on X, formerly Twitter. “Steph Curry is not being discussed in trade talks. Everybody else is.”
In truth, Kerr’s cryptic response is hard to decode. He may have been speaking generally here and not specifically about Kuminga or anyone else on the Warriors. Nevertheless, the 58-year-old refused to shut down the trade rumors involving Kuminga, which might lead you to believe that the 6-foot-8 forward could be moved this summer.
At this point, the one thing we’re sure of is that Curry isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Anthony Edwards signs massive new endorsement deal
Anthony Edwards cemented himself as one of the biggest names in the NBA this past season and the Minnesota Timberwolves star has been rewarded with a massive new endorsement deal. Edwards on Wednesday signed a multi-year contract extension with Adidas, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The deal looks to be worth eight figures annually, though exact financial numbers are not yet known. Edwards has improved in each of his first four NBA seasons. He averaged a career-high 25.9 points per game this season to go along with 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists. The 22-year-old Edwards has elevated his game even more in the playoffs over the past three years, where he has averaged 27.8 points per game in 27 contests. Edwards had three games with 40 or more points in the postseason this year while leading Minnesota to the Western Conference Finals, where they lost 4-1 to the Dallas Mavericks. It also helps Edwards’ brand that he is a fierce competitor who is not afraid to speak his mind. We even saw that with the bold comment he made this week about where he stands with Team USA. Edwards will likely turn out to be a very wise investment for Adidas.

Could the Rangers swing a blockbuster trade with the Calgary Flames?
The New York Rangers’ offseason has not entirely gone as expected. The Rangers fell two games short of the Stanley Cup Finals after a franchise-best regular season that featured 114 points and the President’s Trophy.
After that, they were expected to make a massive splash to shake up the roster in hopes of getting over the hump.
General Manager Chris Drury got off to a good start by placing veteran forward Barclay Goodrow on waivers, getting his $3.641 million cap hit off the books, and bringing back Kaapo Kakko to a one-year, $2.4 million contract.
Despite opening some cap space, the anticipated and highly reported move of Jacob Trouba didn’t occur, and all the top free agents came off the board right in front of their eyes.
The Blueshirts did make some additions, trading for former Stanley Cup champion Reilly Smith and signing Sam Carrick, but that big splash didn’t occur via the open market.
Perhaps that big move could still come in a trade with the Calgary Flames. The Rangers could acquire Mackenzie Weegar from the Calgary Flames A hypothetical move that could be made is for the Rangers to acquire an elite two-way defenseman from the Calgary Flames, Mackenzie Weegar.
Weegar had another stellar campaign, with the Flames playing in all 82 games while scoring 20 goals and registering 32 assists while blocking 200 shots and recording 194 hits.
The 30-year-old has six years left at $6.25 million per year with a no-trade clause, so he would have to agree on a trade to the Blueshirts.
What would it cost the Rangers to acquire Weegar? Acquiring Weegar certainly would not be a low-cost move. For starters, the former second-overall pick, Kaapo Kakko, would be one of the key pieces, as the Flames have been linked to Kakko. This would give the Finish native a chance to blossom and give Calgary a potential elite young winger.
Trouba could go the other way if the Flames were not on his no-move list for salary purposes, but the circumstances surrounding a move.
The Flames would also require a solid prospect, and the Rangers’ 2022 second-round pick, Adam Sýkora, is just that. A mid-round pick could also be involved in the deal as well.
It would be quite a bit to give up for Weegar, but the Blueshirts are looking for a splash move to get them over the hump, and trading for the former all-star would be just that.

Green Bay Packers Linked to Linebacker with 13.5 Sacks
As the NFL season approaches and training camps about to open across the league, there are several free agents still available with the potential to make an immediate impact.
For the Green Bay Packers, the upcoming campaign will be the first with Jeff Hafley calling the plays as defensive coordinator as the organization breaks in a new scheme on that side of the ball.
Given that the Packers are in the midst of a transition on defense, adding a veteran presence could speed up any learning curve on the new scheme for young players.
With camp nearing, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the Packers have been linked to a veteran linebacker to bolster the position group.
Green Bay Packers Urged to Sign Kwon Alexander The Packers remain a bit thin at linebacker, but that could change thanks to a potential bargain-bin free-agency signing with plenty of upside.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox suggests the Packers are a top fit for veteran linebacker Kwon Alexander. “Due to his injury history and age—he’ll turn 30 in August—Alexander should be available at a team-friendly price,” Knox points out for B/R.
“The Green Bay Packers could also use Alexander’s services after parting with linebacker De’Vondre Campbell early in the offseason.
In Green Bay, Alexander could help mentor rookie second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper.”
Alexander could prove to be the ideal mentor for Cooper, especially if the 29-year-old proves he’s capable of returning from a torn Achilles tendon suffered last November and able to play at a high level.
Just two seasons removed from posting 69 total tackles with half a sack, if Alexander can return to that form, he would be a terrific rotational player with plenty of experience to add to a young position group. Through the first 10 seasons of his career, Alexander has logged 13.5 sacks with 631 total tackles, along with nine interceptions with one returned for a touchdown.
Given that the Packers currently have upwards of $28.4 million in cap space, and Alexander would likely command a deal close to the league minimum, he could be a player to monitor for Green Bay this summer if he is indeed healthy enough to get back onto the field.

Former player reveals Steelers’ legendary QB frustrated him
When the Pittsburgh Steelers had former quarterback Ben Roethlisberger throwing the football, fans always knew the team had a chance against anybody. Since Roethlisberger retired, the offense has struggled to find its way.
Roethlisberger had some iconic rivalries and matchups in his career, one of those intense matchups being against the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos faced off against Roethlisberger three times in the playoffs. He won just one of those three games: the AFC Championship in 2006.
He lost the AFC wild-card game in 2012 and the AFC divisional-round game in 2016.
Despite these losses, Denver never enjoyed playing against him. When the Broncos won Super Bowl 50, they had beaten the Steelers in the AFC divisional round that year.
That Broncos team had to face off against some tremendous quarterback play during that playoff run. Former Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr.
joined the “Bleav in the Broncos” podcast to talk about that playoff run that ended in winning the Super Bowl. When asked about the quarterbacks they faced, Harris revealed he hated playing against Roethlisberger the most.
“Going through Big Ben, I hated Big Ben,” Harris said. “Big Ben was tough every year we had to face him.”
Roethlisberger played 18 illustrious seasons in the NFL, all with the Steelers. Throughout his legendary career, Roethlisberger completed 64.4 percent of his passes, amassed 64,088 passing yards and threw for 418 touchdowns while tossing 211 interceptions.
He was a six-time Pro Bowler and a two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback, cementing his place in NFL history. During his reign in the NFL, Roethlisberger was regarded as one of the elite quarterbacks in the league.
Harris is not alone in his aversion to facing Roethlisberger. No matter how substantial a lead you had against the Steelers, as long as Roethlisberger was on the field, victory was never assured. Roethlisberger possessed the uncanny ability to throw an interception and then rebound with multiple touchdown passes.
His resilience and fearless approach made him a formidable quarterback. Despite his seemingly unathletic appearance, he was surprisingly mobile and an exceptionally dangerous passer. It was not easy for opponents to plan for playing Roethlisberger.
Steelers Offense Has Struggled Significantly Since Ben Roethlisberger Retired Steelers fans who have endured the offense in the post-Roethlisberger era have certainly missed him. Since his retirement, the Steelers offense has consistently ranked among the worst in the league.
However, there is renewed hope in 2024 as the Steelers welcomed a new quarterback, Russell Wilson. Wilson, who played for the Broncos for two seasons before joining Pittsburgh, aims to rejuvenate the team’s offensive prowess.
Although Harris disliked preparing for and playing against Roethlisberger’s greatness, the Broncos did achieve a memorable feat by winning the Super Bowl and sending Roethlisberger home.
Reflecting on it, that Broncos team took pride in being the ones to end his season.
Sometimes, opposing teams harbor animosity toward players for no apparent reason or purely out of competitive spirit.
In this case, Harris’s disdain stemmed from the genuine fear and respect Roethlisberger commanded as a remarkably skilled quarterback.
With each season that passes without Roethlisberger, Steelers fans grow more appreciative of his time with the team. For nearly two decades, they were spoiled with exceptional quarterback play.
Now, they look to Wilson to bring back the consistent performance they once enjoyed under Roethlisberger.
It is always interesting to hear opponents’ perspectives on facing the former Steelers teams.
